Mycophenolate mofetil is an immunosuppressive medication that has been used in the treatment of lupus and vasculitis.

It is ordered orally and its daily dose ranges from 500 mg to 3 gm.

Mycophenolate can cause:

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
  • drug induced fever;
  • headache, dizziness;
  • back pain;
  • acne;
  • increased risk of infections;
  • decrease of the blood counts.

It is contraindicated in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Oral contraceptive pills may decrease the efficacy of mycophenolate.
